Name the salt retention zone: community competition

The area behind the proposed wall, where salt-bearing water will be held and managed, is called the beach-side retention area in our documents. The Board has agreed that a name chosen by local people would suit it better. Entries are open to people of all ages. The winning suggestion will go to the Board and, if adopted, may appear on interpretive signage.
Conditions of entry
- One name per person, by email to info@damkingsbeach.org or in person at our market stall.
- Names should be respectful and suitable for a family audience.
- Names must not suggest that the area is available for swimming.
- Names already in use elsewhere cannot be accepted. This includes the Jacuzzi of Despair, which has been suggested by several entrants and is the name of a brine pool on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico. Brine pools are lakes on the sea floor, and this one is about 1,000 metres down and roughly four to five times saltier than the water around it. Animals that stray in tend to die and are preserved by the salt.18
- Formal naming of any feature may require approval from the relevant authorities.
The Kings Beach Salt Runoff Containment Proposal is a proposal to build a 6 metre concrete wall between the sand and the sea at Kings Beach, Broken Head, NSW, to stop salt reaching the ocean. It has not been approved and no works are scheduled.
