To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales
The petition of the undersigned brings to the attention of the House that salt held in the sand at Kings Beach, Broken Head, enters the ocean continuously, with no monitoring or management.
The petitioners request that the House call on the NSW Government to:

We're building a team of local volunteers to help with monitoring, outreach and events. No experience is needed, and training is provided where required.
Help us build the evidence base. Monitoring Officers record regular observations at Kings Beach, including tide, weather, foot traffic and visible salt on the sand, using a standard data sheet.
Read the Salinity Monitoring Framework (DKB-MON-004, PDF), which includes the observation data sheet.
Talk with locals and visitors about the proposal, hand out information and collect petition signatures at local markets.
Help set up, welcome attendees and take questions at our community information sessions.
Deliver information to households and put up posters in your area, at times that suit you.

A short, polite letter from a constituent is one of the most effective ways to put an issue on the agenda. You can use our template below as a starting point. Adding a sentence about what Kings Beach means to you makes it more effective.
Dear Member, I am writing as a constituent to raise the issue of salt runoff at Kings Beach, in the Broken Head area of the Byron Shire. At present there is no barrier of any kind between the sand at Kings Beach and the ocean. Salt held in the sand is carried into the water with every tide, during rainfall and through ordinary foot traffic. Preliminary estimates suggest this may be in the order of 800 to 850 tonnes per year, and nobody is currently monitoring it. The impact of an unmanaged source like this is cumulative. I believe a precautionary approach is warranted, and I ask that you: - support funding for an independent baseline study of salt runoff at Kings Beach; - support an environmental impact assessment of the proposed Kings Beach salt runoff containment structure; and - raise this issue with the relevant Minister. More information about the proposal is available at damkingsbeach.org. I would appreciate your response. Yours sincerely, Name: Address: Postcode:
