Salinity Monitoring Framework released for consultation

Dam Kings Beach has released its draft Salinity Monitoring Framework (DKB-MON-004 (DKB-MON-004, PDF)) for community consultation.

The framework sets out how salt runoff at Kings Beach will be monitored now and following construction of the proposed containment structure. It has three components: a volunteer observation program, the independent baseline study, and the salinity monitoring station proposed for the wall, with data to be made publicly available.

Dam Kings Beach is now recruiting its first Volunteer Salt Monitoring Officers, who will record structured observations at Kings Beach on a fortnightly roster. Full training and kit are provided, and no scientific background is required.

"Monitoring is at the heart of this project," said Project Coordinator Sarah Lindqvist. "Right now nobody is watching Kings Beach. This framework changes that, and it gives the community a direct role."

Comments on the draft framework are welcome through the contact form. To register as a volunteer, visit Get Involved.
